Population (Pop Count)
The total number of cards of a specific type and grade that a grading company has on record. Population reports are publicly available from PSA and BGS and are a critical tool for understanding rarity. A low pop count at a high grade (e.g., PSA 10 pop 5) can dramatically increase value, while a high pop count can suppress premiums. Savvy collectors check pop reports before buying graded cards.
Example
PSA 10 pop count of 47 for a specific rookie card
